Hello everyone in Candy Land,
Um. I do not know if this idea will succeed in its mission to get roleplays a’rollin’ by the dozens, but I want my members to roleplay somehow, even if my own motivation has been fried into smatterings. You all should not have to suffer like me, and this is all I have to humbly offer for a peaceful forgiveness.
Everyone please steer away from me, because Writer’s Block exists.
I was contemplating how to get people of any genre to roleplay together. How do I, little old Sarah, accomplish such a treacherous feat? Several cookies were nibbled on this one. Such a complex thought! Well, since this is a place where I want everyone to roleplay with other members regardless of genre preferences and other such hindrances to creativity, I shall present this chance to give you a roleplay that will knock your rainbow and polka dot socks off.
So we have this shiny new thread. People post that they want to join in a roleplay with someone else. Afterwards everyone is randomly paired with each other. Boring, but here is the catch! Do not just waltz in and think you are getting a free marshmallow and sliding off the hook from working by merely saying you will participate. Lazy, lazy, lazy! Oh, no - you have to create your roleplay without any idea of what is going to happen next! Basically, there is a half-half deal that you are making with your partner before you know who they are.
I am insane.
But before you post in that thread for real, you must create a small profile for a character you want to see in the upcoming roleplay. It can be your own character, some random dude on the spot, or a canon character of some book or show – does not matter in the least. But you can still alter them however you please. There is no limit to what you can write, but keep it simple in just a few sentences to describe the character’s aspects. Nothing major like a whole profile, though. Make sure to add a name, age, basic history, personality, or physical appearance for that lovely little character of yours. Stuff along those lines, you know. But you, the creator, are not going to play this epic character, because your fuzzy new partner will be the one to take that magnificent honor as the roleplay begins. And in exchange, you will grab the other person’s character by the collar and force them to roleplay with you. It works out for everybody.
Keep in mind that if your partner ends up loathing your creation or just is not too keen on playing that character at all you both can compromise on varied traits to that character: however, this is not the point. Attempting to use another’s character cannot be that bad, and when you take partial ownership, you can take over the role as you see fit with input from the other person. I just want to add something different so people can use someone else’s idea and work off that. This can be taken seriously or be a way for you to goof-off. Though, switching ages or something similar seems okay for comfort levels.
But my horrendous idea does not conclude there! Why, you inquire? Because I never make anything easy!
Totally making fun of myself.
The other thing you have to do is post one genre you want. So if you put romance and the other person puts comedy, the roleplay will be a romance-comedy. Then post one sentence describing what you want in the roleplay with that genre, like the full-fledged plot. Like “I want this fantastic roleplay to be a high school romance!” suffices. This sort of thing can be tweaked to college or whatnot, but sticking around the main theme opens the doorway to new opportunities, I suppose? Or maybe I am just thinking things again.
But seriously, you can compromise genres and themes with your partner if you both despise the other’s ideas and want to scrap them. But try at all costs to keep it similar in design,, even if it strays from the original principle and is less thrilling.
Oh, and ponder this. If the other person puts comedy and says “I want it to be a comedy about clowns!” you two will probably have a romance-comedy about a high school for clowns. –sagely nods- Yeah, mull over that for a minute.
. . . .So, anyone pointing a pitchfork at me yet? No, this is not the thread to do this, unless it inevitably might transform into it. Yeah, but suggestions and flames go below for now! Goodie, goodie! ^+^ -giggles and hides under an umbrella-
Nobody take me seriously.
